My Two Last Days
Before I knew about the all-day internship I decided I needed to end my internship in order to study for my AP exams. I brought in a plant for Mrs. Cupka and cookies for the students. It was a pretty normal day for me with nothing out of the ordinary. The class made me cards and we had a big group hug and then I was gone. I was still emailing Mrs. Cupka, however, and we were setting up a day for my return. We were going to surprise the class with my all-day internship.
When I walked in on my actual last day in the morning, the class was thrilled to see me, and got even more excited when they found out I would be spending the entire day with them. Since the fourth graders were taking an SOL we had music first thing in the morning after the announcements. Mrs. Cupka said it was crucial we were silent in the hallways. After music Lillian had a really bad outburst and ended up going to guidance and then home. Then we did some language arts SOL review; everyone seems to be really terrible at putting words in alphabetical order.
Then we went to PE which seems to be a lot of the kids favorite. We then went back to the classroom where I organized folders and made copies for Mrs. Cupka while the class took a practice SOL until it was time for lunch.
At lunch the hardest part was finding who to sit with. I ended up splitting the time equally with all sections of the table starting with the back table where Jessica was sitting since she was allergic to nuts. I then moved to the class table and sat with a group who constantly told "Yo Mama" jokes. After I sat with a more calm group who liked asking me questions and then the last group which did not say much at all; they were more quiet and just ate their lunch and read.
For the rest of the day we did math which was everyone's favorite. I would walk around and help anyone who needed it and at the end of the day we all said our final goodbyes and I made conversation with a group before the bell rang and we all went our separate ways.
